Tu Long, also called Changqing, Chishui or Hongbao Lodger, was born in Ningbo and known in the history as a litterateur and dramatist in the Ming Dynasty. He entered the court in 1577 AD and served as head of the Ministry of Rites, the highest rank he ever achieved during his political journey. According to the History of the Ming Dynasty, Tu was an inborn talent who could finish thousands of words instantly. Wang Shizhen praised his poems as heavenly while compositions quaint and spontaneous. Tu, one of the Five Scholars in Late Ming, was rather uninhibited, indulging himself in poems and wine. His masterpieces like Caihao Ji and Tanhua Ji was so popular in the capital then that he even outshone Tang Xianzu (author of Peony Pavilion). After research, some experts extrapolate that the author of Jin Ping Mei(The Plum in the Golden Vase) is actually Tu Long under the pseudonym of Lanling Xiaoxiaosheng.
