Born in a noted family of Ningbo whose genealogy book is well preserved in Tianyige Museum, Tu Youyou once studied in Ningbo Middle School and Xiaoshi High School. She is the leading scientist of Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences as well as the winner of Nobel Prize in physiology because of her discovery of artemisinin which saves millions of lives around the world, especially in developing countries. Tu is the first Chinese to receive Nobel Prize in science.
