Huaguoyuan Temple is a Qing-dynasty construction under the municipal-level protection. Built in the Southern Song Dynasty, it consists of a porch, a grand gate, a front hall and a main hall. Legend has it that during the Jianyan era (1127-1130), General Du Kai recuperated in the Temple because of his illness after he escorted Emperor Gaozong of the Song to Ningbo against the Jin force. At that time, there were two mysterious Annan (now Vietnam) beasts in the Temple accompanying him. When he died for illness, the beasts died, too. Then it's said that in the first year of the Chunyou era, a plague broke out in Mingzhou. Right then General Du appeared with the beasts and brought an end to the plague. In gratitude, the people built a temple for him and set two vivid statues in the semblance of the beasts at the gate. Another story tells that the Huaguoyuan Temple formerly belonged to the manor of the South Song chancellor, Shi Hao and was a place to offer sacrifices to the Earth God During the Wanli Period of the Ming and the Qianlong Period of the Qing, it was renovated and in 1999 it was renovated again. It's now Ningbo Baxing Culture Exhibition Hall.
