Zhuzhou Islet lies at the southernmost tip of the four islets in the center of the lake. A great deal of green bamboo invest the place with an air of antiquity and transcendence. The initial name of it was Pine Islet. It was not until Minister Shi Hao of the Southern Song Dynasty retired and erected Zhenyin Temple that it was renamed as Bamboo Islet. In the Song Dynasty, there were Lou family's study, Jinzhao Hall, Wang family's Zhoujin Hall, Siming Cave, house of governor Shi and Bamboo Islet Private School. The ancestral hall for Lu Kang and Quan family's villa were established in the Ming Dynasty. In the Qingli era of the North Song dynasty, Wang Anshi opened schools and promoted education, inviting the famous “Five Gentlemen of the Qingli Era” including Lou Yu to teach in the county school. Later, Lou Yu also delivered lessons alone on the Pine Islet, fostering numerous students. In the Southern Song Dynasty, prime minister Shi Hao built the Zhenyin Temple and Siming Cave with three emperors bestowing the names of “Maofengzhenyin”, “Zhenyin” and “Siming Cave” on them. In the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, governor Zong Yuanhan built Bianzhi Academy and during the period of the Republic of China, the Yinxian County Girls' School, now known as the Ningbo No.2 High School, was set up here.
