Misty Islet is situated on the southwestern tip of Moon Lake. Initially, it was the gathering place for the fishermen. In the late Northern Song dynasty, when Shu Dan, supervisor of the Longtu Pavilion, returned home in glory, he built a manor here where he exchanged poems with friends. This marked the advent of literati societies in Ningbo. In the Southern Song Dynasty, there constructed the dwellings for Scholar Lou and Scholar Zhao and Scholar Bian. In the Ming Dynasty, Misty Islet had mansions mainly for Lu family, including for the ministers and other officials. Besides, Minister Xie's Mansion, Wan family Hotel and new houses for Quan clan. Born in Misty Islet, the historian, Quan Zuwang, was honored as the first successor of Ban Gu and Sima Qian. Nowadays, Misty Islet Library can still be found which belonged to the prominent book collector and scholar of textology, Xu Shidong in Qing Dynasty. Besides, along the Guijing Street there are buildings of the Ming or Qing style, forming a whole residential block which also serves as a main historic reminder of the past architectural style of the ancient neighborhoods, thanks to the omnipresent bamboo, bamboo corridors and bamboo pavilions.
