Yingzhou Jiewu Memorial Archway. In 1606, 17 Ningbo students including Lu Shike and Li Kangxian passed the imperial examinations at the provincial level and were made jurens, making a stir in the city. To offer his best wishes to the 17 jurens, Gan Tujie, magistrate of Zhejiang Province, built this Memorial Archway for them. He wished the 17 people could be posted to important posts like the 18 scholars like Du Ruhui and Fang Xuanling of the Tang Dynasty. The convex and stereo patterns (like cranes,Kylins, lion faces and ox heads)on the Memorial Archway were lifelike and exquisitely crafted, making itself a piece of art.
