Jiang’s Former Residence (built in Republic of China period)is now a cultural site protected at the municipal level. It is composed of the gate, front hall, principal room and wings, forming a closed-type triple compound. The building was the former residence of Chiang Jieqing, the elder brother of Chiang Kai-Shek, when he took the post of Superintendent of Zhejiang Customs in Ningbo. Chiang Jieqing was a xiucai (one whose passes the imperial examinations) from Ningbo State-run School in the late-Qing Dynasty, and graduated from Siming Technical College as a law major. In the early republican period when Jiang Kai-Shek based his troops in Shanghai, Jiang Jieqing was the judge advocate, and the magistrate of Yingdeng County in Guangdong shortly after, and then the councilor of Zhejiag Province and superintendent of Zhejiang Customs Supervision Office. The words “Jiang’s Former Residence” were inscribed by Mao Yihu, former deputy president of the municipal PCC.
