       Lu’s Former Residence. It is a residence built during the period of the Republic of China, and now a cultural site protected at the municipal level. The Lu’s Former Residence belonged to Lu Hongchang and then his son Lu Chengzhang. Lu Hongchang, styled Hongcang, acted as the vice captain of Shanghai Ship during the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. He came up with a brilliant scheme enabling cargo ships going across Bohai Sea to make narrow escapes, which earned him great repution among the business circle. Besides, being righteous, he also dedicated himself to free beggars and duomins from discrimination.He even started up schools for children of these people. Lu Chengzhang, Lu Hongchang’s son, who just returned after studying abroad in Britain, threw himself into the tide of revolution in 1911. In 1911, he returned to China to take part in the ongoing revolution. He summoned some 100 students to break into the Dongdu Gate, with himself holding a banner,thereby contributing to the recovery of Ningbo. With this deed, he made himself a household name.
