Shuize Tablet (Pavilion). It is a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level, a crucial water conservancy facility at the Ningbo section of the Grand Canal of China, as well as the earliest hydrometric station in Zhejiang Province. The tablet was built by Wu Qian, magistrate of Mingzhou, during the reign of Emperor Baoyou (1253-1258).He set up a stone stele with the Chinese character “ping” on it and made it a rule that all the sluice gates of the city should be opened or closed according to the water levels indicated by the stele, opened when the level reached the first stroke of the character “ping” and closed with the second stroke. Thanks to his wisdom, people in Ningbo were free from the plague of drought and flood. Renovated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the major part of the stone pavilion was constructed during the reign of Emperor Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, with the pavilion base and the stone stele built in the South Song Dynasty preserved.
